Gapmonth Volunteers
We are not a travel company. We have no shareholders, fat cats or tour reps taking their percentage. We are a non-profit charity. Tourists do not get to the villages we reach. We ask you to fundraise £850 on our behalf, 100% of this money is a donation directly to the charity. The communities we work in respect us and we work hard and play harder so you can encounter and join the culture, rather than just observe it.

"Because it is a charity and not a gap year company the attitude of the villagers are different. You are not a group of whities drop in from outer space but part of a team that the community knows will be around long term. This means the locals do not steal from you or try and rip you off but the opposite. People with next to nothing go out of their way to give you fruit, gifts and loving kindness. They wanted me to eat their food accept their gifts when I was the one with all the wealth. The Chief is very funny and speaks a kind of pirate English and just loves overseas volunteers. Getting to know him is easy and fun. I had travelled widely and this trip blew me away and allowed me to go places I would have never been able to get to as a tourist. Village by Village knew their stuff...... thank you."

Tom Mutton "The first day we arrived at the village was an amazing experience seeing the gratitude, happiness and enthusiasm of all the village really helped me confirm that what I was undertaking was going to be an amazing experience and would change me, my views on the world and my general outlook on life. The trip helped me become a lot more worldly, gave me confidence to deal with various situations and is literally the best thing i've ever done! You won't get this kind of experience with any other gap trips! It was to feel at home, due to the villages’ acceptance of us and our ways and their constant kindness to us. I didn't miss any creature comforts at all. Also I was amazed at how they had so much less than anyone I knew, yet they were so much happier than the majority of people I know! Eye opening, horizon expanding, emotional, character building, life changing and FUN!!!"

"Go, it will probably be one of your best experiences in life! There is more love there then I could possibly give back! There is so much more that needs to be done and I just want go back tomorrow and start digging! The time I spend in the village made me see more of Africa than the rest of my trip across Ghana."

Date and Cost
You only have to fundraise £999
for an adventure of a lifetime in the jungles of West Africa. Ask a local business for a donation, do a sponsored walk, shave your head, start a pub quiz. You will be amazed how quickly the money starts flowing in. All that money goes as a direct donation to buy the bricks and cement needed for the community projects you will be working on.
