We
exist to ensure rural Ghanaian villages living in
poverty have access to the things we in the UK we
take for granted. We intend to reach 100 villages
by 2016 with clean drinking water,
education for children and sanitation. Before we undertake any new
projects with an African community the following
elements must be in place:
Communal
Labour
Communal Land
Improving lives
Cost Effectivness
These four elements are the bedrock of all projects.
If you give something away free the receiptiant
perceives it to be of low valve. If you work together
as equals the thing you create has greater value
and long term worth.

Communal Labour
We will only work with communities who are prepared
to engage in a 50/50 partnership to help themselves
by providing labour, sand, stones (when locally available) and water for the project
Communal Land
Projects must be accessible to the whole community
and by working on communal ground it ensures the
project is owned and maintained by the community and
not only the landowner
Improving lives
As part of our commitment we do not just fly in
and fly out of villages but live with the people
of the village in their homes and see how their
lives are improved by the projects we complete
Cost Effectiveness
We do not spend most of our money on staples and
head office overheads but directly on materials
that will be used by the communities we support.
The village supplies land, labour and accommodation
(which is normally a mud hut). We have only one
paid member of staff in the UK and do not rent a
big, fancy office in Central London. But rent when appropriate and work from home. Help
us to reach more communities and fight poverty.

After Neil Kerfoot (our CEO) survived crossing
Africa by Land Rover at the age of 21 he returned on his
40th birthday (May 2006) and marked the celebration by
building a well in Ghana.
Commenting, Neil Kerfoot said “...Only half
of Ghana's rural communities have access to safe clean
water. So I decided my 40th was going to be different!
...”
The trip had such a profound effect on him that, within
a week of returning to the UK, Neil had quit his job to
enable him to create Village by Village. Our head office
is based at his home in Worcestershire.

“... Life is just not fair! We in the west
have a social responsibility to try and readdress
that imbalance ...”
